Sometimes you need to use a CD or DVD to discuss files with other people, create backups, and transfer information between computers. While USB drives and the network are now preferred for purpose-specific transfers, Windows 10 still makes it easy to burn (“burn”) a CD-R or DVD-R disc. Here’s how.
First: the basics
Before we begin, let’s assume that your company has an optical media drive that can write to the disc of your choice. This can be a great internal drive or one that connects to your computer via USB. We also assume that you have already installed all the required drivers. Fortunately, Windows 10 works with most CD-R/W and DVD-R/W drives automatically on a plug and play basis, so you may not need to install any drivers.
When choosing a media, make sure it is as compatible as possible: DVD burners can also burn CD-Rs, but CD-R drives cannot burn DVD-Rs. Also, you cannot play DVDs in a new CD drive.
Choose how Windows burns the disc
Let’s get started. Sign in to Windows on your computer and insert a blank rewritable CD or DVD into the optical drive. As you already know, when you insert it, a door will appear that says “Burn Will’s CD”. This dialog will ask you how you want Windows to handle writing to this drive. Here are the options, so what and what do they mean.
Similar to a USB stick: it allows you to transfer and erase files to a blank drive on the fly using real-time file setup, without the need to finalize the drive. If you have a write-protected CD-R or DVD-R disc and you delete the file, the manual file will no longer be fully displayed in Windows, but it will appear that disk space is still being used for resetting. However, if you’re using a rewritable CD, you can erase files on the go without erasing the entire drive at once. One problem is that discs created this way are generally not compatible with pre-Windows XP computers.
With CD/DVD media player: this is more traditionalWhat is the system for “mastering” discs? When you clone files to disk, they first appear to be temporarily copied to a transfer area on your hard drive. So when you click “Burn” in “Explorer”, they are all immediately burned to a CD. First, discs created using this method are more compatible with older versions of Windows. Do you have
Once you have chosen our writing method, select it. Then enter a name for the drive and click Next.
What happens next depends on the strain you choose. Let’s go through them one by one below.
How to burn a good CD or DVD with a live file system (“like an expensive USB drive”)
If you selected “Close as USB Drive” in the last menu, no further action is required to blog on CD or DVD. This will open a file explorer window on your optical game disc, and to spread it out to whatever you need, copy the files directly to the disc in explorer as needed. You can drag and drop or copy and merge files into windowsabout.
As mentioned above, in many cases you can erase files using this method, even if you’re using a CD-R or DVD-R, logically it’s enough to erase them. “Erased” data is still physically written to disk, even if it becomes inaccessible. For example, suppose you have 700 MB of free space and you are copying 10 MB of linked data to disk. You now have 690 MB of free space on your site. If your company deletes 10 MB of content, you will only have 690 MB of free space.
On the other hand, as with the writable disk format, Windows actually deletes available files on the fly, and you can free up disk space by repartitioning files.
Once you choose to eject a disc, Windows will prompt you for several finalizations before the drive ejects the disc. After that, you can re-insert it and write directly to it again or read it on another computer.

How to burn any mastered CD or DVD (“with CD/DVD drive”)
If in the last menu youchose the option to use the disk “with a CD / DVD drive”, your future drive will open in the corresponding explorer window. On Windows, you will see a high-quality “Files ready to be written to disk” header.
If you drag (or copy and paste) files into such a window, they will appear in this precious window, which is essentially the setup area for a fully mastered CD on the job site. Files are not psychologically written to the actual drive until you burn a CD in File Explorer.
Does Windows 10 have a CD burner program?
Yes, including other versions of the Windows operating system, Windows also includes a useful disc burning tool. You can either provide a built-in file manager for burning discs, but if you want to create audio CDs, for example, you’ll probably need to use a dedicated Windows compression tool.
